About time we show you a preview to next theme. Scheduled to be released early next month, our next theme is all about the location map. Yes, we have GeoPlaces theme to cater to this but its much too advanced and many users need a simple theme that lets them add places on a map and create location guide websites.

WP Locator Teaser

WP Locator, our next theme will cater to this purpose. You can create a dedicated small site to serve different purposes like store locator for big brands, a site dedicated to the places you have traveled, location guide on specific topic for example “Chocolate shops in London” and so on.

Of course, the theme will have regular WordPress features, like dedicated blog and features you usually see in WordPress themes. Along with that, with this theme you will be able to add a place from wp-admin, add photos and content about the place, etc. The full screen homepage will list all the places as a map marker. You click on that and you will be taken to that full screen page showing map of that place while showing you details of the place.

We are excited about this simple, yet unique theme. What do you think?

WooThemes has launched a short WordPress survey to learn more on about how you are using WordPress and how it can be improved. The survey consists of 22 questions and will take you around 5 minutes to complete. The survey is not reserved for WooThemes customers, everyone can chime in. The data will be shared with templatic as well so we will be able to know what you as an end WordPress user want and we can bring in product updates accordingly.

There is something in it for you as well! No, it’s not the fuzzy feeling you get when helping someone (well, that too), it’s 5 Kinde Fire devices that will go to random survey participants.

Lately there has been a lot of talk about browser wars and how Firefox is losing its followers. I wanted to see if this was in fact true so I checked Google Anaytics data for Templatic.com and indeed found some interesting results.

The sample period is January 1st 2010 – October 31st 2011
During that period the site had over 2,5mil visits so it should provide a pretty good sample for this little overview. During that time Firefox emerged as a clear winner with almost 50% of all visits. Chrome is second with 28%, Safari third with 12% and IE fourth with only 10%.

That was kind of expected, but what happens when we start monitoring growth? What happens when we compare let’s say October 2011 with January 2010? What happens is…things get interesting.

  • January 2010, Firefox: 26,444 visits, 60% of all visits
  • January 2010, Chrome: 6,183 visits, 14% of all visits
  • October 2011, Firefox: 68,437 visits, 40% of all visits
  • October 2011, Chrome: 60,231 visits, 36% of all visits

To put things into perspective here are growth numbers across all major browsers. Growth measured between January 2010 and October 2011.

  • Firefox 160%
  • Chrome 875%
  • Safari 200%
  • Internet Explorer 210%
  • Opera 190%

What about this year? How do the two most popular browsers fair when comparing them on a month-to-month basis?

If this trend continues we could see Chrome take over the lead as early as January or February 2012 (on Templatic of course :) )

I personally prefer Chrome, but also use Firefox and Opera daily. What about you, which browser do you prefer (and why)?

Just like the past couple of years, that special time of year has come when we are going to take a little break. Starting with Wednesday, October 26th most of us at Templatic are going on a small vacation. We’ll be back until Monday, October 31st at the latest.

We will be celebrating Diwali, an important holiday here in India. We’d like to take this opportunity and wish Happy Diwali to all of you who celebrate it.

When it comes to theme support, remaining Templatic staff will try to handle as much tickets/forum threads as possible. Try to go easy on them :)

Billing and coding issues will take the biggest hit during that time since all of them are handled by the staff in India. We would like to ask for your patience during those days. Wishing everyone a joyous and prosperous days ahead. Happy Diwali!

When planning a vacation at a popular place, people are often bothered by unavailability of hotels, lack of decent rooms & proper services, etc. So they’ve started opting for houses on rent. If you have a residential property, preferably near a tourist spot, you can offer it on lease to tourists and generate a decent passive income. This WordPress theme is for property owners like you to showcase your vacation home, attract potential customers online and offer it on rent. Say hello to Vacation Rental theme!

With this theme, you can display photographs of your apartment/villa along with customizable descriptions, amenities, location on a geo-map and directions. Potential tourists can book your property for the price you specify in the back-end. An entry is done in a calendar to avoid further bookings on same dates and payments are handled by various gateways like PayPal, Authorize.net, 2CO and Pre Bank Transfer. Yes, there is a Pay at arrival option too.

The design of the theme is attractive and responsive (so that it displays fine across all devices). Though you can list only one property at a time, it’s strategic design will give you great ROI. What’s more? It has a beautiful blog section where you can get personal with your readers and potential customers. You can check out the demo of the Vacation Rental WordPress theme and test it free for 14 days.
