By now most of you heard the news about how hackers compromised the timthumb script. If by any chance you haven’t heard this news I recommend you read this blog post. To summarize, hackers got “in” through allowed external sites that enable you to show images from sites like blogger.com or photobucket.com. Detailed explanation is available in the blog post mentioned before.
That said, Templatic theme users have nothing to worry about. If you open your thumb.php script you’ll notice an absence of “$allowedSites”. The script only works with images uploaded to your own site, no external images are allowed. For more about the script click here
Back in old days, designers needed to think twice about which font to use. They could use different fonts but their choice was too limited. Only the web-safe fonts, assumed to be present on most computers, could be used. Some of these web-safe fonts are Arial, Verdana, Georgia, and Comic Sans.
Fast forward to 2011, way past beyond font replacement techniques like Cufon and @font-face, Google single handedly took the responsibility of bringing great typography to the web. With over 190 fonts in the Google Font Directory and counting, a designer now has a wide choice of fonts to choose from. Those of you who read our twitter feed might have seen our tweet about IRC. It wasn’t a fluke, we indeed opened and registered an IRC channel. You can find it on the FreeNode network – #templatic. The channel will provide a unique experience to both sides. We won’t be providing theme support through the channel but we will be able to assist you if you have some tiny problem that can be sorted really fast
This post will serve as a mini-tutorial for those that want to participate in the channel but don’t know how.
We introduced our test site more then a year ago so this is just a reminder for those who didn’t have a chance to use it. The test site features all of our premium themes and you have 15 days to try out as many of them as you can. If you run into problems during testing you can always let us know via HelpDesk.

To sign up and test the themes do the following:
- Sign up by choosing user ID and email address
- On the next page select your site name and title
- An activation link will be sent to your email address. You MUST activate the site by clicking the link
- Once you activate the link you will be given a randomly generated password with links to login to your admin account. Make sure to copy that password and login to wp-admin area using the same.
- Once you are in wp-admin dashboard, go to Appearance > Themes
- You will see all the templatic themes here. Simply activate the theme of your choice and it will auto install itself.
- You can check different aspects of the theme from here.
