Magazine looks great! Very clean, very streamlined.
Can the search feature be integrated with either the top bar or put right above the sign-up? It would clash with most logos, I think.
News Time is a little cluttered for my taste, but I’m sure news-oriented sites will love it. Only thing it’s missing is a direct reader’s feedback/comments display.

what’s happened to the auto dealer theme you teased us with a few months ago?
Like we did with real estate, we will make it a complete theme instead of cutting back on features. Agree that the development on that has stopped. Thats because of the e-commerce framework we are building. One step at a time. Make them all perfect.

Good suggestion. By default it does not have this feature as it becomes complex to fit everyone’s need. We recommend using plugins like Gravity Forms to accept article entries on your site.

Also look forward to a Directory theme to fit most niches – with features like
* different selective free/paid options/upgrades
* a couple of different front page options
* each listing when clicked opens its own page
User can login from front-end and edit/ add to his listing – like add a logo or header of his company, photo gallery, google map, discount coupon which can be printed (not the full page), a twitter update section from that user, FB , youtube …
A directory like this could work perfect for most niches and in time can be tweeked with more widgets
A city portal is another good option …. hard to find the perfect theme and functionality to build these type of sites and hope to see templatic take them forward in time….

Most of the things you specified are there into the theme. Ratings etc. can be done by simply installing some free plugins.
Best way to ask the users to submit article is by creating a form using some plugin such as Gravity Forms. Its easier to build quick forms without whole lot of coding trouble.
Can you elaborate more on category types? Seems like in interesting idea
if i’m not mistaken he means custom taxonomies with custom post types
Magazine have different needs WITHIN the same website (theme).
beside the standard style of front page + category view (for articles) + article view, there is a need for categories that look and function totally different, as they are not for “articles” but for services such as forum, photo of the day/month etc., twitter (short messaging), videos (just a youtube-style page with embedded videos and the thumbnail preview + title), and RSS feeds that related to specific category and not only as whole website.

your feedback are spot on. As you mentioned in previous comment, aggregator kind of themes do justice to some of your ideas but yes, a different kind of way is necessary.
Expect some ‘new’ kind of themes in future from us when we do magazine themes again.
i think newstime looks great and am very much looking forward to see it – how exactly are you planning to manage the menus (i like it 2-tiered conditional on top – categories/pages and tag-based on the side)?
