Those of you who read our twitter feed might have seen our tweet about IRC. It wasn’t a fluke, we indeed opened and registered an IRC channel. You can find it on the FreeNode network – #templatic. The channel will provide a unique experience to both sides. We won’t be providing theme support through the channel but we will be able to assist you if you have some tiny problem that can be sorted really fast
This post will serve as a mini-tutorial for those that want to participate in the channel but don’t know how.
The first step is to download an IRC client. We recommend X-Chat 2. You can download it here. After you download please install and run the program.
When you first run the program you will get a screen like this
The upper part of the window is for your information; enter the data as requested. Later in the post I will show you how to register a desired username so you don’t need to give this too much thought – but make sure you don’t leave User name and Real name blank. Under “Networks” you must select FreeNode as pictured on the left. If you plan on using IRC only for talking to Templatic you can check “Skip network list on startup”. After you entered all the information just hit the Connect button
If you did everything correctly you should see a window looking something like this:
Make everything looks like the image above and hit “OK”
In case the popup doesn’t show you’ll see something like this:
In case you see this and not the popup, don’t worry – we’ll get there in a sec! All we need to do is connect to the Templatic channel. To do that click on the “Server” button and then on “Join a Channel”. On the following screen enter templatic ( #templatic) and hit OK.
If you did everything correctly you should now be in the Templatic channel. Yay!
Even though you can now chat with us maybe you would like to register your username so no one else can use it? If that’s indeed the case then follow this procedure:
Enter this message in any text box in your IRC client: /msg nickserv register <password> <email>
Note: Do NOT include <> around your password and emailIn the next couple of minutes you should receive an email with directions on what to do next. You’ll need to copy/paste a message to confirm your account. Do that and you’re done with registering
The “problem” with registered accounts is that you need to log in every time you start the client. You can log in by writing this message into the client: /msg nickserv identify <password> OR you can make the client do that for you! To do that hit CTRL + S on your keyboard, select FreeNode on the networks list (if it’s not already selected) and press EDIT. You should get a screen like this:
Enter the data as in the picture. Under “Nickserv password” enter your password
If you did everything correctly every time you open X-Chat 2 it should open FreeNode – Templatic channel and log you in automatically. If you need any help with setting up X-Chat 2 just post a comment to this post, send me an email on vedran@templatic.com or Tweet me @Tvedran

IRC?!? So old … noone i know uses IRS these days and will not install it just because you guys are in IRC. Better search for social activity in facebook and google plus…
