Here’s a guide for the TechNews theme where we’ll explain you how to set up and configure the theme using various options provided.

Upgrading from TechNews to Technews2

Here are the steps to upgrade from TechNews to TechNews2:

• Download the latest theme from your member area.
• First of all, download the TechNews and Supreme themes to your desktop from your member’s area.
• Both the themes will be there in “Supreme Themes” section. To download the theme, click on the links named as “Theme” or “Supreme” respectively.
• Unzip the folder and connect to your server; navigate to wp-content/themes
• Rename the existing TechNews folder to TechNews_old
• Upload both folders (supreme + TechNews) to wp-content/themes/
• Now, on your server open functions.php file from TechNews theme folder
• At around line number 43 you will find this code: function supreme_child_theme_setup() {
• Directly below that line of code input this:
  update_option('template','supreme');
• Visit your site and hit the refresh button. If you see an error hit refresh again – you should see your site now
• Now just undo the above change and make the file as it was earlier. Create a new ticket through Contact Us form if you run into any problems

After updating the theme, all widget settings and some theme settings will be needed to do again.

Installing TechNews

• Connect to member area and expand the Tech News section under My Downloads. Download all available files
• Connect to your WordPress dashboard (wp-admin) and navigate to Appearance -> Themes. Click on the Install Themes tab and then on Upload. Use the Browse option to locate the supreme zip file on your hard drive – then click on Install Now. After the installation process is finished do not activate supreme.
• Navigate again to Appearance -> Themes -> Install Themes -> Upload but this time load/install the tech news zip file. Once it’s installed activate the theme.

In case WordPress rejects the .zip files use FTP to install the theme:

• Extract supreme.zip and technews.zip then upload to /wp-content/themes directory
• Once uploading is done connect to the WordPress dashboard and activate the Tech News theme

Installing Sample Data

If you don’t want to setup all the widgets and do all the settings manually, then you can click on “Insert sample data” button to install sample data in the theme.

If you don’t want to insert the sample data then you can skip this step and follow the below guide to set up your site.

 

Whenever you are setting up widgets please read the description below the fields of the widget. These notes are really helpful in understanding the functionality of the widgets.

Set up Home Page:

1. Go to Wp-admin -> Appearance -> Menus. Create a menu and select that menu in Theme Locations -> Primary section.
2. Go to Wp-admin -> Appearance -> Menus. Create a menu and select that menu in Theme Locations -> Secondary section..
3. Go to WP-admin -> Appearance -> Widgets. Place “T – Header Advertisement Widget” in “Header: Right Area”.

4. Go to WP-admin -> Appearance -> Widgets -> Front Content where below widgets can be set up.

T – Homepage Slider:  Give category ID of the posts that you want to display in slider. Then “Posts per Slide”, “Sliding Speed”, etc… You can deactivate the rotation of slides by selecting “No” in “Auto Play” option.

T – News Flash, Latest Posts Widget: This widget will display the latest posts that are added on your site. Give number of posts you want to display here in this widget and also give link for “Read More News”.

T – Advanced Latest Posts Widget: This widget also works for latest posts like above widget but the view of both are different. You can select list view or grid view here.

5. Go to WP-admin -> Appearance -> Widgets. The sidebar for the homepage is “Primary”. You can put different widgets like: T – Advertisement widget, T – Social Media Widget, T – Subscribe, T – Advanced Popular Posts Widget, etc…
6. Go to Wp-admin -> Appearance -> Themes. Click on “Customize” link. Mark the checkbox “Search Facility In Footer” given there in “TechNews Theme Settings” and click on “Save & Publish” button.
7. Different widgets can be placed for footer in areas named “Footer1”, “Footer2”, etc…

Set up Single Post Page:

1. Go to WP-admin -> Appearance -> Themes. Click on “Customize” link. Mark the checkboxes given for different social media given there in “TechNews Theme Settings” and click on “Save & Publish” button.

2. Go to WP-admin -> Appearance -> Themes. Click on “Customize” link. Mark the checkbox “Show author biography on posts” given there in “Templatic Theme Settings” and click on “Save & Publish” button.

3. Go to WP-admin -> Appearance -> Widgets. You can place the widgets in “Primary” area. You can put different widgets like: T – Advertisement widget, T – Social Media Widget, T – Subscribe, T – Advanced Popular Posts Widget, etc…

Contact Us Page

Let’s see how we can set up the contact us page using TechNews:

1. Go to WP-admin -> Pages -> Add New.
2. In Page Attributes, select “Template – Contact Us”.
3. Click on “Publish” button.
4. To have Google map on this page you can place “T → Google Map Widget” widget in “Contact Page Widget Area” area under WP-admin -> Appearance -> Widgets.
5. We have provided compatibility with a Captcha plugins: “WP-reCaptcha”. You will need to install and activate it first.
6. In The WP-admin -> Appeanrace -> Themes -> Customizer -> captcha option, Mark “Contact Us Captacha Setting” and click on “Save & Publish” button to make available the captcha in the Contact us page.

Shortcodes

The easiest way to add buttons or columns into a post is to use shortcodes. Click here to download the Shortcodes plugin and then follow the same instructions you used to install the theme, but instead of placing the folder inside /wp-content/themes, place it inside /wp-content/plugins. Different Advertisement Widgets

There are different advertisement widgets we have provided in the theme with different designs. See the image for more clarification. Usage of each is explained here:

1. T – Header Advertisement Widget: This widget is used to place the advertise in the header of your site. The concerned widget area is “Header: Right Area”.
2. T – Sidebar Advertisement Widget: This widget is used to place the advertise in the sidebar of your site. You can place different eight advertises in to this widget. The concerned widget area is “Primary” area.
3. T – Advertisement Widget: This widget is used to place the advertise in content page or sidebars. The concerned widget areas are “Single Post: Below Content”, “Blog listing sidebar”, etc…

bbPress:

Let’s see how this plugin works.

• First, download, install and activate bbPress just like you activate any other plugin. You can get it from here.
• When we activate the plugin, three taxonomies are added – Forums, Topics, and Replies. Replied depends on its Topic. Topic depends on its forum.
• For Example, In Templatic Forums, there are different forums: Catalog theme forums, GeoPlaces Theme Forums, etc… This Catalog theme forum is a “Forum” in bbPress.
• Now, under Catalog theme forums there will be many forums. These are treated as “Topics”.
• And a Topic can have many replies. Each of them is known as “Replies” in bbPress.
• Forums can only be added from backend. Topics & Replies can be added from Front-end & back-end.
• If you are adding a Topic from back-end, then you must select Forum for that topic from WP-admin -> Forums -> New Forum -> Forum Attributes -> Type field.
• If you are adding a Reply from back-end, then you must select its respective forum and topic from WP-admin -> Replies -> New Reply -> Reply Attributes section.
• bbPress’s other settings are placed in WP-admin -> Settings -> Forums.

Can I show the pop up for my image gallery in normal WordPress pages?

Yes you can, but the condition is, if you have activated Templatic-Shortcodes plugin.
