Monsoon is in full swing here in India and for the most part, it’s quite enjoyable. So, for me the off-hours activities narrow down to having coffee and reading books. And it was last Sunday afternoon while reading a novel, it struck me, why not a WordPress theme for Publishers?
That’s Right. We are planning and working on a theme for publishers where they can promote and sell their books.
Even though our main focus is for digital books, it can be used to showcase and sell any kind of digital products – Music files, Themes, Software, Icon bundles etc. The custom fields in the theme can be managed by the admin so, you can easily change the fields that match with the product you are selling.
More than one book
As per the name of the theme, this theme is not limited to mere one book. You can showcase unlimited books with a dedicated detail page for each of the books you have published.
Sell your digital products
Each book page in the theme have two options.
- Custom Link: You can specify a custom link that leads to another site such as e-junkie, your affiliate link, a link to Amazon book store or any other.
- Upload & Sell: This option will let you upload .zip file of your product or let you specify a download link. In front-end, when a user clicks on Buy button, they will be taken to Paypal and once they make the payment, they will receive login credentials to your site. Once they log-in, they will be able to download the product zip file you uploaded. Isn’t that cool?
E-junkie integration
The theme also support e-junkie integration. This means you can showcase your products nicely using this theme and can manage the entire selling process via e-junkie – the easiest and most trusted way of selling digital products. Once you enable this, users will be able to “add-to-cart” the products and “view shopping cart” of e-junkie on your site.
PayPal supported
This theme will support PayPal payment gateway.
Not an e-commerce theme
Though it works that way, this is not entirely an e-commerce theme and hence, it will not have all the features that our other e-commerce theme have. This theme is built for Publishers to showcase their work in a very professional manner and sell them.

I´m the first client… I loved this theme, I was waiting for something for months … I am the author of several books and when I came across the problem with security in sales of digital files. E-Junkie has the feature below, the theme will work too? How is the security system with the files to download?
“E-Junkie” – Each buyer’s copy of your PDF eBook file can be stamped with their name, email address and unique transaction ID, which discourages sharing and allows you to identify who shared your file if you do happen to find a copy out “in the wild” somewhere.

If you are using e-junkie, this theme has custom field for you to place the buy now link for e-junkie. That means, it will work without any problem.
If you are going to use the theme’s built-in sales function, there are some free WP plugins who lets you digitally stamp PDF files.
This is an interesting thought though. We will reconsider this.

I am not really sure how this is done. If you can share this in a bit more detail? Having some sample, reference links would be great as well.
There’s a wordpress plugin that pulls in specific products from a category and your affiliate ID is included in the embed code.
It also pulls the exact product detail page with customer reviews, description, ratings etc.
But I don’t think this theme is aimed at that.
Can we use affiliate links, R.Bhavesh?
Yes, you surely can use affiliate links. We have not tested the plugin which you are talking about.

I know you said that it isnot a e-commerce theme, but could you have more than one Publisher and Authors.
That is, will potential viewers be able to filter by Publishers or Authors (as well as topic areas) or is it for just for one publishers only?
Good idea, my friend who comes up with theme market to target, will have to visit you guys when I am in India to share idea.

This theme is for one publisher/author only. Yes you can create categories and tags etc. and tweak it to your liking but we are building this theme with the following idea in mind.
One author publishes 10-30 books and he needs to showcase those books in professional manner with price, book image, multiple buy option (amazon, barnes & noble etc.) AND if he is publishing PDF books, he can sell it on his own from his site.
Will we be able to sell ‘physical’ books too?
Nope. This will not be possible with this particular theme. Instead, I would suggest choosing one of our e-commerce themes.

Yep, they will be.
Yet another great cool theme!
I think an ESSENTIAL feature would be to create the option of linking to other places that the ebook is available. i.e. Amazon Kindle, iBookStore, B&N, Sony Reader, Google eBookstore and Kobo.
So the user has an option to click a link to these places and get taken there to buy the book.

We hear you. You will be able to add as many third party links you wish to add for a particular book. Those links will be shown in the drop down that you see in the screenshot above.
As per your selection, the buy button link will change and displayed.
Will you be releasing this theme this week?
We planned to. Some of the glitches we came across has delayed the release of this one for early next week.
This one sounds great – can’t wait to test drive the theme!
Any chance of getting some link cloaking options so if your putting affiliate codes etc…
Now that there are so many free scripts and plugins are available that can easily do this, we didn’t include this. Keeping the UI for adding a product was becoming too complex so we tried keeping it as simple as possible.

Depends on how you plan this site. It is targeted towards small business / single author but ultimately, its a widget ready theme. If you plan right, you can do it for more than one authors
