Fitness events are great for meeting people, having accountability to reach your goals, find a gym or center, find a trainer, or maybe just get out of the house a little more.

- Themes and Plugins
This is important because it serves as the address and name for people to find your website online. Choosing the right domain is an important part of your website building process so here’s a few tips to help with that. You can purchase a domain online using many different services BUT WAIT there’s more-
Most services will include a free domain when you get hosting through them. There are many things to think about when choosing a hosting provider which includes things like uptime, speed, and price. Be sure to check out our detailed article about a host for directory websites before choosing a host (this is the same decision process as an event portal)
Next is Choosing the right theme for your website. Depending on what you are wanting to achieve this can be the most difficult part. Themes are specifically designed to be more efficient and easier to customize for their use. Premium themes will come with plugins to do so.
But you won’t necessarily need a theme titled for the specific niche to get an amazing website. For example: if you’re wanting to make a fitness event website, you can achieve this with the Eventum theme not only specifically a theme that is called SportsXX. You may find it has more options for flexibility instead of a specific marketed theme.
When looking for an event website here are a few things to look for:
- Flexibility and Customization Options
- Calendar and Ticket/Booking Options
- Front End Submission
I will be using the Eventum Theme to create a WordPress website because it includes:
- Integrated Theme Events Calendar
- Event Attendee Tracking
- Event Ticketing Compatibility
- SEO Friendly
- Automatic Mobile App View Option
- Font-End Submissions
- Monetization Features
- Connect Domain and Hosting
- Install WordPress
- Install WordPress Theme
Connect Domain and Hosting
Either way you decide to go with your domain and hosting, each one will have information on how to connect domain or how to pick a domain name.
Once you have the domain and host situated it’s time to install wordpress. If the hosting provider has integration with WordPress then they will usually provide a 1-click install.
But if not it is really easy to install yourself, by downloading the latest version.
Using your PHPMyAdmin, create a new database, taking note of the name of the database.
You can then access your website with the URL – yourdomainname.com/wp-admin
Setup your website with the help of instructions on the screen.
Install WordPress Theme
Next is installing the theme you would like, there will be instructions for you with any theme guide given to you, which will include clicking on Appearance > Theme > Downloading the zip and activating
You fitness website will be about ¾ done when you downloading, that’s the beauty of having a premium theme.
First thing you are going to want to do is setup your logo. Pro tip: make sure the size is about 150 x 35 pixels to have a sleek corner logo at the top. You can also have the same size logo on the footer to add another element of design to your website.
There are a few ways to access the change the logo but if you start from the Dashboard Click >>Appearance >>Customize >> Site Logo then select your image
If you would like to change the Site Title and Tagline this can be done by clicking the Site Identity tag
This includes the homepage background slider which will be the first thing your user will see. To add slider go to Appearance >> Widget and insert the “T-Homepage-Banner” into the Homepage Banner widget area. If you are using the Eventum theme you will already have this laid out for you all you need to do is add your images where the images for the theme are located
This will be the first identity of your website, brand, and representation of your company so make sure it really speaks to your audience. All the pictures in your website should reflect that. Pick awesome pictures online, or you can have a photographer take pictures of the fitness event going on. Either way they should give your website a certain feel. If you take a look at the most successful fitness events out there, they have the most amazing pictures to reflect the image they want to convey.
Primary and Secondary Menus
You can create a menu and change the pages by going to Appearance >> Menus. This is the prime navigation for your website so be sure it will flow the way your user will need. Make it makes sense by having the most important things listed first then additional information can be added in. More details on how to add register and login links, and general information on how to add pages can be seen here.
Front End Submissions
This is where the directory comes in, we are the directory experts and since it is the parent theme to the Eventum theme, this already comes with a way for users to add their own events. You can set it up for this to be free or paid submission. (great way to make money). On the front end it will be a simple button that can say something similar to “SUBMIT EVENT”. On the backend you can setup exactly the right information for users to submit by going to Tevolution >> Custom Fields>> Event
Event Ticket Booking
Very important aspect of a fitness website is adding on the ticket booking which is included as an add-on. This allows any user to sign up, get a ticket, and purchase. You have the ability to setup commission for selling the ticket. You can also see all the transactions with the Transaction Report.
